The Long and the Wide

2023

Releasing the textile from the surface and giving it an independent shape is an essential aspect in my exploration of traditional craft. The object is a two winged screen in which the textile creation plays the central role. The pattern is precisely made to fit one wing. The structure of the surface seduces to touch and conveys tactile sensuality. The screen is part of my vision to elevate textile fabric to an independent object that bridges and connects spaces, interiors, art and design.

The two parts of the object consist of an oversized weave, one twill weave and one weave with fringes, handmade to measure, that clothes a wooden structure. The fabric is created on a weaving frame specially constructed by me, with integrated threaded rods that allow me to regulate the tension of the warp. The weaves require 2-4 shafts on a loom. To transfer this principle to my weaving frame, I attach the warp threads to be lifted to heddle rods, which enable me to open the respective shed for the weft thread with a single movement. Handmade by me.
